What is a Field-Based Consultant for Student Improvement Teams?

Field-Based Consultants are educators who provide technical assistnace to Student Improvement Teams to assist them in furthering or strengthening their efforts. These consultants are selected on the basis of their demonstrated expertise in the problem-solving process and letters of recommendation from their Student Improvement Team colleagues. Field-Based Consultants are provided with ongoing training and are recognized statewide as expert providers of technical assistance for Student Improvement Teams.

The mission for the FBC network for Student Improvement Teams is as follows:

Our mission is to assist teams, schools, and districts with the implementation and application of the problem-solving process to improve the learning outcomes of all students. Implementation of the problem-solving process is reflected in how teams involve families and students, facilitate the process, and maximize the use of school and community resources. Application is reflected in how schools utilize the problem-solving process to develop logical and defensible School Improvement Plans, targeted plans for groups of students, or Student Improvement Plans for individual students.

Why might a team request a FBC?

  • To assist in sharing the process and philosophy of SIT with an entire faculty
  • To facilitate activities to deepen faculty understanding of the process
  • To troubleshoot different areas of the process (e.g., facilitation, problem identification, progress monitoring)
  • To observe school process and provide feedback to strengthen team functioning
  • To serve as an ad-hoc member of the team for students with challenging issues
  • To assist with strategic district-wide planning efforts
  • To link the problem solving process to other building or district initiatives
  • To link the SIT process to specail education or 504 evaluations and eligibility
  • For reviewing and providing feedback on forms
  • For reviewing and providing feedback on individual plans
  • You name your need here--assistance is tailored to meet you where you are--and designed with you to take you where you want to go ~
